On Friday, June 1, 2018 Jefferson County will join communities around the World in celebrating our awesome dairy industry! It is World Milk Day and we invite you to join us for the celebration. The Jefferson County Dairy Festival kicks off at 9am in the Dulles State Office building in Watertown with elementary school students from across Jefferson County visiting to learn about all things dairy. The festival features presentations on everything from health and nutrition to environmental topics. There are usually live animals present and kids may even get to milk an artificial cow. It is a great time for everyone. Besides samples of dairy products, there is a café set up providing tasty food for festival goers. The festival goes until about 2pm. Then at 7pm the Jefferson County Dairy Parade starts at the Watertown High School and marches into Watertown on Washington Street. Thousands gather to see all the great entries in the parade. Our Equine Color Guard will start the parade off carrying the United States and New York State Flag. Then we’ll have the current Jefferson County Dairy Princess, Cassidy Schell, featured with her court followed by the incoming Dairy Princess who begins her reign as she serves the giant ice cream sundae after the parade. The parade will have several local high school marching bands, floats, HUGE farm equipment, fire trucks, and everything you would expect in a really great parade. And, this year we are featuring the official drumline of the Buffalo Bills, Downbeat Percussion, in the parade!! You may have seen them on TV at Bills games performing for the crowd. Immediately after the parade, they will appear in front of the Dulles State Office building performing for the crowds! There performances are always exciting and entertaining. We invite you to join us for this worldwide celebration of all things dairy. There are 264 million dairy cows worldwide and a lot of them live right here in NNY. For more information on the festival and parade go to the Dairy Festival and Parade Facebook page or to our page on the Jefferson County Agriculture website.
