In 2001, the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) selected June 1st as World Milk Day, which celebrates the important contributions of the dairy sector to sustainability, economic development, livelihoods and nutrition. The Global Dairy Platform is coordinating global celebrations on June 1, 2018.
Each one of you can contribute to raise awareness on how important milk is for healthy nutrition knowing that the dairy sector supports the livelihoods of up to one billion people worldwide! Take part in a worldwide celebration by organizing your own #WorldMilkDay event on that day in your city !
Share your love for milk and dairy by hosting an event and join the global social media conversation!
Last year World Milk Day was an incredible success taking place over 42 hours around the world with 588 events in 80 countries! The Day started on June 1st with dairy farmers raising their glass of milk at sunrise in New Zealand and ended with the sunset in Hawaii. Milk and all dairy products were celebrated by farmers, staff, families, chefs, nutritionists, doctors, academics and politicians raising their glasses to the benefits of milk in their lives. These wonderful activities were organized by dairy farmers, cooperatives, national dairy associations, schools, nutrition groups, dairy companies, and thousands of families and citizens.
We are counting on all of you to participate again or for the first time in the World Milk Day celebrations. You can raise your glasses to milk, host an event (such as open houses at dairy farms, milk donations to schools and NGOs, photo contests, sports competitions, fairs, dance shows, parties, nutrition conferences, tastings, exhibitions, food carts, and milk bars) or just join the conversation on social media.
