World Milk Day was established by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations to recognize the importance of milk as a global food and to celebrate the dairy sector. Since then, the significance and benefits of dairy and dairy products have been actively promoted annually on World Milk Day around the world. It is pertinent to mention here that the Dairy & Livestock Sector of Pakistan has potential to employ 60 million people and currently, livelihood of more than 10 million families is connected to milk processing companies. Altogether Pakistan produces approximately 60 billion litres of milk per annum and has a potential to double the production through increasing milking yield per animal. Moving forward, Innovations in Dairy Industry of Pakistan are the need of hour for progress and development.
The National Alliance for Safe Food (NAFS) is a leading organization and Pakistan’s largest Food Professionals network striving for safe & nutritious food production and consumption for betterment of human society by training and educating consumers and manufacturers. Pakistan Dairy Association (PDA), is the representative body of forward looking dairy farmers and milk processors of the country. More than 90% of the packaged dairy products sold in Pakistan are produced by PDA members. In addition to delivering safe and healthy dairy products to the consumers, PDA members are the only private sector companies assisting the dairy farmers to improve quality and quantity of milk produced while providing them access to the market through a structured supply chain. Moreover, PDA provides a forum to dairy sector and allied agro fields, professionals as well as farmers, for the determination of knowledge and ideas in Research & Development, production, processing and marketing. It works to establish strong backward & forward linkages amongst the stakeholders in private as well as public sector and livestock farmers.

Out of 7 lakh, roughly 70% are women milk producers and almost the same contribution is from small holder (having 3 or less milch animals) ensuring gender equality and uplifting socioeconomic status of rural masses. Producer companies are owned by farmers but run by professionals drawn from the cooperatives, private and developmental sectors. Here on this World Milk Day, professionals working at various milk producers companies from across the country have come together to reiterate the pledge to stay committed to the objectives of organizations i.e. - To provide quality milk and milk products to consumers while sourcing milk even from the remotest corner of our country. - To provide a competitive price to farmer members through a fair and transparent process of milk collection and making payments in their respective bank accounts. - To increase milk productivity through breed improvement programs and better animal management practices
